AIMS International Finland is an executive search company that has decided to do some good.

The Finnish authorities and unions have founded an office to help, guide and develop the skills of academic, unemployed jobseekers to smoothen the gap between two jobs. In Finnish it is called Työnhakuveturi, which roughly means “Passport to employment” or directly translated as “Train of jobseeking”. Työnhakuveturi offers courses, peer coaching and events directed at jobseekers that are motivated and able to find new employment but need help in new ways of applying, interviewing, social media or otherwise. This is a novel way to resolve unemployment challenges of highly educated, also immigrants, in Finland.

Walk for Jobs is arranged for the fourth time on September 27th, 2019 and it is an easy going, easy access event where jobseekers meet with recruiters from the search industry. The main purpose of the event is connecting recruiting companies and highly educated unemployed active jobseekers. It is arranged yearly in two locations in Finland, Helsinki and Tampere.

The event participants are from the following business areas:

  • ICT
  • Research and product development
  • Biotechnic
  • Logistics
  • Communications
  • Marketing
  • HR
  • Project Management
  • Production Management
  • Financial Management
  • Tourism
The event is mostly arranged by volunteers that have been part of the program before.

During this event, the jobseekers pitch their knowledge and story to the company representative and based on a 2 minutes discussion they either decide to take a walk or end the discussion there. During the walk there is a possibility to make a short interview, and even if the candidate does not fit to any of the open assignments or the company is not hiring now, the companies still have a great opportunity to meet the professionals for possible future needs.

AIMS Finland has participated in the event twice before and have gotten several good candidates from these interviews and see this event as an opportunity to give back and lower the barrier of contacting headhunters in a comfortable environment.
